Ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, including military strikes and reprisal attacks in Iran and other locations across the region, have significantly heightened security risks. Coordinated missile strikes have targeted military installations, with some impacts extending to civilian areas in Gulf states.
The situation remains volatile and may escalate further with little warning. Travel disruptions are occurring both within the region and globally.
New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members currently in the Middle East region are encouraged to register with the TravelSafe’s registration portal to receive direct updates. Ensure your registration details remain current.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has issued urgent warnings advising:
- New Zealanders in Iran, Israel and Lebanon to leave immediately, if it is safe to do so.
- Travellers may be impacted even if their destination is not in the Middle East, due to flow-on effects in global travel.
- Travellers with connections or layovers in the region may experience delays, re-routing, or cancellations.
We urge all policyholders to closely monitor local media, airline updates, and MFAT advice.
