One of the few NZ travel insurers offering destination wedding cover
Planning to get married overseas? Go Insurance is one of the very few New Zealand travel insurers that offers Destination Wedding Cover — specialist protection designed specifically for couples getting married abroad.
From wedding cancellation and attire to photography, flowers, cake, gifts and transport, Destination Wedding Cover can help protect eligible wedding-related costs if unexpected events affect your special day.
Important before you apply
Destination Wedding Cover is not automatically included with your travel insurance policy.
A destination wedding is more than just a holiday
Standard travel insurance is designed for travel-related events. But a destination wedding also involves venues, suppliers, photography, attire, rings, flowers, cake, transport and other wedding arrangements — often representing a significant financial commitment.
Go Insurance is one of the very few New Zealand travel insurers that offers dedicated Destination Wedding Cover, designed to provide additional protection for eligible wedding-related costs. Cover is subject to underwriting approval and must be shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
What Destination Wedding Cover includes
If approved, Destination Wedding Cover provides the following benefits. All amounts are in NZD and subject to the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the cover document and Policy Wording.
$15,000
Wedding cancellation and rearrangement
If your pre-booked wedding is necessarily cancelled or rearranged due to a covered event, including illness or injury to the wedding party, venue damage, adverse weather, supplier non-attendance or theft of wedding attire.
$7,500
Wedding attire and rings
For accidental loss, theft or damage to wedding attire and rings. Includes up to $1,500 per wedding ring, $750 per item or set, and $500 for attire hire if needed before the ceremony.
$7,500
Wedding gifts
For accidental loss, theft or damage to wedding gifts after they have been gifted and entered your possession. Includes up to $500 per gift, $500 per voucher and $1,000 cash.
$5,000
Photography and video recording
For reasonable additional costs to re-take official wedding photos or video if your photographer does not attend, footage is lost or damaged before backup, or more than 75% of images are lost due to non-development.
$2,500
Supplier insolvency
If a wedding services provider becomes insolvent and is unable to deliver the contracted services. A written contract must be in place with the supplier.
$2,500
Wedding flowers and cake
For accidental loss, theft or damage to wedding flowers and wedding cake. Cover applies from 24 hours prior to your wedding through to the start of your reception.
$2,000
Wedding cars and transport
If your contracted transport provider fails to meet their obligations due to non-appearance, breakdown or accident — covering irrecoverable payments or reasonable alternative transport costs.
$1,000
Wedding documents
For reasonable costs to replace wedding-related documents following accidental loss, theft or damage.
$1,000
Professional counselling
For professional counselling costs if the wedding is permanently and unavoidably cancelled due to the death of either partner or either partner electing not to proceed.
Included
Wedding ceremony and reception
Cover extends to both the wedding ceremony and the reception. Whether your reception is at the same venue or elsewhere, it is included within the definition of your wedding.
What can go wrong with an overseas wedding?
Overseas weddings can involve multiple suppliers, significant travel arrangements and important items being carried with you. Things do not always go to plan.
Supplier problems
A venue, caterer, florist or other supplier may fail to deliver, or become insolvent before your wedding day.
Wedding attire issues
Wedding attire or rings can be lost, stolen or damaged while travelling, leaving you scrambling for alternatives before the ceremony.
Photography or video problems
Your photographer may not show up, or footage may be lost or damaged before copies are made — with no way to recreate those moments without additional cost.
Cancellation or rearrangement
Illness, injury, adverse weather or venue damage may mean your wedding needs to be cancelled or rearranged at significant cost.
Apply for Destination Wedding Cover
Destination Wedding Cover requires an application and underwriting approval. It is not automatically added to your policy.

Destination Wedding Insurance FAQs
These answers are general in nature. Please read the Cover Document and your Go Insurance Policy Wording for full details of cover, limits, conditions and exclusions.
Is Destination Wedding Cover automatically included with my travel insurance?
No. Destination Wedding Cover is a specialist endorsement that must be applied for separately. It is subject to underwriting approval and only applies if it is shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
How do I apply?
You can apply online using the Destination Wedding application form. Our underwriting team will review your application and advise whether cover can be offered and on what terms.
How much cover is available for wedding cancellation?
Up to $15,000 for irrecoverable wedding costs if your pre-booked wedding is necessarily cancelled or rearranged due to a covered event. Covered events include illness or injury to the wedding party, venue damage, adverse weather preventing the wedding party from reaching the venue, supplier non-attendance and theft or damage to wedding attire where no alternative is available.
What if my photographer does not show up or loses the footage?
Up to $5,000 is available for reasonable additional costs to re-take official wedding photos or video. This covers non-attendance of your contracted photographer or videographer, loss or damage to original footage before copies are made, and failure to develop footage where more than 75% of images are lost. Claims for additional photography costs must be made within 90 days of the wedding.
Are wedding rings covered?
Yes. Wedding rings are covered for accidental loss, theft or damage up to $1,500 per ring, within the overall $7,500 wedding attire benefit limit. Engagement rings are not included in this definition.
What if a supplier goes out of business before my wedding?
Up to $2,500 is available if a wedding services provider becomes insolvent and cannot deliver their contracted services. You will need a written contract in place with that supplier. Cover does not apply if the financial default had already occurred, or a reasonable person would have expected it, at the time of booking or purchasing your policy.
Does it cover the whole wedding party?
The wedding party is defined as the two people getting married and their parents or guardians, children, siblings and attendants such as bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girls and page boys. Illness or injury to any member of the wedding party can trigger the cancellation and rearrangement benefit.
Are wedding gifts covered?
Yes. Up to $7,500 for accidental loss, theft or damage to wedding gifts after they have been gifted to you and entered your possession. Individual limits apply — up to $500 per gift, $500 per voucher and $1,000 for cash gifts.
What if my transport provider does not show up on the day?
Up to $2,000 is available if your contracted wedding transport provider fails to meet their obligations due to non-appearance, breakdown or accident. This can cover irrecoverable payments already made or reasonable alternative transport costs.
Does this cover need to be read alongside the Policy Wording?
Yes. Destination Wedding Cover is an endorsement to your Go Insurance travel insurance policy. It must be read in conjunction with your Policy Wording, which contains the standard terms, conditions, exclusions and definitions that also apply to this cover.
Can I rearrange rather than cancel my wedding?
Yes. The cancellation and rearrangement benefit can cover the reasonable cost of rearranging your wedding to a similar standard where this would prevent an otherwise unavoidable cancellation. Rearrangement costs are not covered if the rearranged wedding is more than one year after the original cancellation date.
What documents should I keep?
You should keep written contracts with all wedding services providers, invoices, receipts, proof of payment and booking confirmations. Contracts are particularly important — claims relating to supplier failure cannot be accepted without a written contract in place.
