Good to Know

Golf as a Sport — What’s Automatically Covered

Recreational golf is automatically included as a covered sport and leisure activity under a standard Go Insurance policy.

If you’re only concerned about overseas medical expenses for an injury sustained while playing recreational golf, you may not need Golf optional cover for that purpose alone.

Golf optional cover is specifically designed for golf equipment, equipment hire and unused green fees — not medical cover for golf injuries, which is already included.

Common Questions

Golf Travel Insurance — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything New Zealand golfers commonly ask about Golf optional cover with Go Insurance.

Does Go Insurance NZ cover golf equipment?

Yes — Golf optional cover includes selected benefits for loss, theft or damage to your own or hired golf equipment, including clubs, bags, trolleys, waterproof golf clothing, umbrellas and shoes. Golf optional cover must be selected during the quote process and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

Are unused green fees covered?

Golf optional cover includes unused green or club fees if you have to cancel or curtail your trip for a covered reason. Cover is subject to the limits, conditions and exclusions in the Policy Wording. Keep booking confirmations and receipts for any prepaid golf costs.

Is recreational golf automatically covered under Go Insurance?

Yes. Recreational golf is automatically included as a covered sport and leisure activity under a standard Go Insurance NZ policy. If you only need overseas medical cover for a golf injury, you may not need Golf optional cover — that is designed specifically for equipment, hire and unused green fees.

What happens if my golf clubs are delayed by the airline?

Golf optional cover includes Golf Equipment Hire if your equipment is lost, stolen, damaged or delayed for more than 12 hours while travelling. This helps ensure you can still play while your clubs are being recovered or replaced. Keep the airline’s written report of the delay.

Do I need to declare my golf equipment before I travel?

You do not need to pre-declare equipment values to Go Insurance before departure. However, you should keep receipts and proof of ownership for your golf clubs and gear. If you claim, you will also need proof of any prepaid green fees or golf packages that are part of your claim.

Is damage to golf clubs while I’m playing covered?

No. Golf optional cover does not cover damage sustained to golf equipment while it is in use, or deliberate damage and gross misuse. Cover applies to loss, theft or damage during transit and storage, subject to Policy Wording conditions and exclusions. Read the Policy Wording before purchasing.
