Cruise travel insurance for New Zealand travellers
Cruise holidays are different from standard overseas trips. Medical care onboard can be expensive, missed departures can create extra costs, and weather or timetable changes can affect your itinerary.
Go Insurance offers cruise cover options designed to help protect you from common cruise-specific risks, so you can travel with greater confidence.
Why cruise cover matters
Cruise travel can involve risks that may not arise on a standard land-based holiday.
Cruise holidays need a different kind of travel insurance
A cruise can combine international travel, onboard medical services, shore excursions, changing itineraries and strict departure times. That means the things that can go wrong are often different from a typical overseas holiday.
The Go Insurance Cruise Extension is designed to help respond to common cruise-specific events, where selected and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
What can go wrong on a cruise holiday?
Cruise holidays can involve risks that are different from a standard land-based trip.
Medical treatment onboard
Public healthcare entitlements generally do not apply onboard a cruise ship, and medical treatment costs may be charged directly to you.
Emergency evacuation
If treatment is not available onboard, evacuation to hospital may be required, potentially in a foreign location and at significant cost.
Missed departures
Delayed flights or other travel disruptions can cause you to miss embarkation and create extra travel expenses.
Itinerary changes
Weather or timetable changes can lead to missed ports, missed shore visits and lost prepaid excursion costs.
What our Cruise Extension covers
Our Cruise Extension is designed to help protect you from common cruise-specific disruptions that can affect your holiday.
Pre-paid excursions
If you or your travelling companion become sick, or adverse weather prevents you from attending a booked excursion, we may cover the financial loss.
Missed shore visits
If your ship cannot dock at a scheduled port because of adverse weather or timetable restrictions, a cash benefit may apply.
Cabin confinement
If you are confined to your cabin and quarantined by the ship’s doctor, we provide a daily cash benefit for each affected day.
Ship to shore evacuation
If urgent medical treatment cannot be provided onboard, we cover the cost of emergency evacuation from the ship to shore so you can access appropriate medical care.
Select Cruise cover when you buy
Cruise-specific benefits may only apply where Cruise cover has been selected and is shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
Cover is subject to the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the policy. Please read the Policy Wording before purchasing.
