Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (Update 15 Oct 2024)

The New Zealand Government have updated their Safetravel warning to Do Not Travel due to the volatile security situation, armed conflict, civil unrest and terrorism and have advised any New Zealanders currently in Israel should depart now via commercial options.

Go Insurance will no longer cover new policies for travel to that region while the warning remains in place.

For any Go Insurance policy holders already in Israel with current policies, cover remains in place under the terms of your policy, provided you were there before the travel advice was upgraded. This includes claims for medical costs related to health issues or incidents not connected to the hostilities.

However, if the cause of any claim is directly or indirectly related to the situation in Israel, the following General Exclusion 2 will apply to all policies:

2. Loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by, happening through, or in consequence of war, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power, or confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.

Our Emergency Assistance team can provide non-financial assistance to policy holders who contact them for assistance related to the hostilities and also provide assistance for any medical claims or other claims not related to the hostilities. If you require emergency assistance please contact our dedicated team.

We strongly advise those who have not yet departed to reconsider the necessity of your travel plans at this moment. The situation on the ground is fluid, leading to numerous flight disruptions, delays, and cancellations. Before you embark on your journey, we urge you to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

Considering the circumstances, we highly recommend that you get in touch with your travel agent or travel provider immediately to explore the best options for altering your travel plans. Some travel providers are offering penalty-free options to amend bookings, ensuring flexibility during these challenging times.

Please note that due to the well-publicised nature of this event, there will be no insurance coverage for delays or rearrangements of travel plans related to the current situation in Israel.
